Activity:
Have students research "shelterbelts" and other
types of conservation efforts used during the 1930's in the
Dust Bowl. This can be done using the internet and other sources.
Shelterbelts were trees planted to help stop wind erosion
during the 1930's in the Dust Bowl. Have them research a place
around or on campus where they can plant their own shelterbelt.
They can also raise $10 to donate to The National Arbor Day
Foundation and get 10 free trees to plant. Have them water
trees and keep track of their growth.
