Monday: (TEKS 7.1A)

Activity: Randomly scatter extra equipment over entire gym. Have students get in pairs. Blindfold one of the students to simulate a black dust storm that has just rolled in. Have the un-blindfolded student guide the blindfolded student through the obstacle course using only his or her voice.

Tuesday: (TEKS 7.7A)

Activity: Set up one "farm" on one side of the gym and another "farm" on the other side of the gym using tape or jump ropes. Lay hula hoops sporadically connecting one "farm" to the other. Have students get from one "farm" to the other by jumping from hula hoop to hula hoop. After each round of jumping, take out one hula hoop. See which student can jump from "farm" to "farm" with the least amount of hoops.

Wednesday: Field trip to the Discovery Center

Thursday and Friday: (TEKS7.1D, 7.1E, 7.7E)

Tell students: many people who lived in the Dust Bowl danced for recreation. Towns would hold dances and townspeople would get dressed up and go. It was an inexpensive way to have fun. With a partner, create your own synchronized dance or routine to a Woody Guthrie song (teacher can give every student the same song ... found in the learning tub). On Thursday have students practice their dance. On Friday have students perform their dance.
