Don Harrington Discovery Center and
Space Theater presents
Mrs. O’Leary’s Fire Prevention Workshop
The Don Harrington
Discovery Center and Space Theater is excited to welcome BWXT Pantex
Fire Department as we celebrate Fire Prevention Week with Mrs. O’Leary’s
Fire Prevention Workshop on October 11, 2003. The workshop will
be from 9:30am-12:30pm at the Discovery Center.
The BWXT Pantex
Fire Department will be demonstrating the use of their newly acquired
E-1 fire engine and other equipment needed when doing their job.
There will be several family activities, including a lesson on the
“Stop, Drop and Roll” technique and a demonstration
of a fire extinguisher. The workshop activities will also include
learning about this year’s theme of “Get Out, Stay Out”
and making a fire escape plan.
Mrs. O’Leary’s
Fire Prevention Workshop is in connection with the Fire Prevention
Week, sponsored by the National Fire Protection Association, which
occurs as a commemoration of the Great Chicago Fire. The Great Chicago
Fire occurred on October 9, 1871 and a popular myth behind the cause
of the fire is Mrs. O’Leary and her milk cows. The workshop
is a fun way to teach about fire safety.
Admission to
the Discovery Center is $4.50 for adults, $3.50 for children ages
3 to 12 and $4.00 for senior citizens and students (ages 13-22).
The Discovery Center is open Tuesday thru Saturday from 9:30 a.m.
to 4:30 p.m. and on Sunday from Noon to 4:30 p.m. The Center is
closed on Mondays. For more information, call (806) 355-9547 or
log on to www.dhdc.org.
The museum is a private, not-for-profit organization that makes
science exciting, relevant and interesting to all types of learners
by providing interactive exhibits and programs that actively engage
children, adolescents and their families. It fosters inquiring minds
and nurtures the individual genius that is within each of us.
