“Fantastic Universe” opens
at the Don Harrington Discovery Center & Space Theater
AMARILLO, TX, June 27, 2003 -- The Don Harrington
Discovery Center unveils it opening presentation for the Space
Theater. The opening presentation will entertain and educate
audiences of all ages and demonstrate some of the new digital
theater capabilities. The opening show was created and produced
by the Discovery Center and is titled “Fantastic Universe.”
“The opening presentation will begin with a musical
journey of the Texas Panhandle followed by a constellation
show of the summer skies concluding with Fantastic Universe,”
said Ganesh Ganpat, Executive Director. “Fantastic Universe
is a roller coaster ride of our universe and is a presentation
that will excite visitors about the digital theater system.
The 40-minute long show displays the latest in digital theater
technology with stunning computer graphics and animation.
I am delighted with our theater staff Aaron Guzman, Space
Theater Education Director, and Chris Cost, Space Theater
Graphic Designer and Programmer, for their efforts to make
this first presentation a first-class production.”
The Space Theater will open to the community on July 26 with
Fantastic Universe, which will be shown daily at 11:00 a.m.
(except Sundays), 1:00, 2:00, and 3:00 p.m. through September
19, 2003. The theater will show “Wonders of the Universe”
and “Skies Tonight” on September 20 to December
31, 2003. “New Horizons” and “Skies Tonight”
will be shown from January 2, 2004 to April 30, 2004.
Admission to the Space Theater will be $1.00 per person in
addition to the Discovery Center admission. Admission to the
museum is $4.50 for adults, $3.50 for children ages 3 to 12
and $4.00 for senior citizens and students (ages 13-22 with
school ID). The Discovery Center is open Tuesday thru Saturday
from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and on Sunday from Noon to 4:30
p.m. The Center is closed on Mondays.
The museum is a private, not-for-profit organization
that makes science exciting, relevant and interesting to all
types of learners by providing interactive exhibits and programs
that actively engage children, adolescents and their families.
It fosters inquiring minds and nurtures the individual genius
that is within each of us.
