Space Theater Opens at the
Don Harrington Discovery Center
AMARILLO, TX, June 27, 2003 -- The Don Harrington
Discovery Center announced today the reopening date for the
Space Theater will be July 26, 2003. The Sybil B. Harrington
Trust, as part of the $12 million Master Plan, funded the
$1.2 million renovation project.
Discovery Center is the 5th installation in the world of the
Digistar 3 digital theater system. The Space Theater takes
visitors beyond the stars with educational and entertaining
presentations that will delight your eyes and ears. The immersive
experience will take your imagination to new places and expand
your definition of a BIG PICTURE!
The opening presentation will include a demonstration of the
systems capabilities. “The presentation will begin with
a musical journey of the Texas Panhandle followed by a constellation
show of the summer skies and the featured presentation called
Fantastic Universe,” said Ganesh Ganpat, Executive Director.
“Fantastic Universe is a roller coaster ride of our
universe and is a presentation that will excite visitors about
our digital theater system.” The opening presentation
will be shown daily from July 26 to September 19, 2003 at
11:00 a.m. (except Sundays), 1:00, 2:00 and 3:00 p.m.
Admission to the Space Theater will be $1.00 per person in
addition to the Discovery Center admission. Admission to the
museum is $4.50 for adults, $3.50 for children ages 3 to 12
and $4.00 for senior citizens and students (ages 13-22 with
school ID). The Discovery Center is open Tuesday thru Saturday
from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and on Sunday from Noon to 4:30
p.m. The center is closed on Mondays.
The museum is a private, not-for-profit organization
that makes science exciting, relevant and interesting to all
types of learners by providing interactive exhibits and programs
that actively engage children, adolescents and their families.
It fosters inquiring minds and nurtures the individual genius
that is within each of us.
